Why This Topic Matters

Here’s the thing… adversity is one of those topics we all understand intellectually, but when it shows up in real life? That’s a different story.

If I’m being honest, I’ve had moments where adversity didn’t feel like growth. It felt like pressure. It felt like frustration. It felt like “why is this happening to me?”

But in my conversation with Jordan Mendoza, something clicked for me.

This idea that adversity isn’t just something we survive… it’s something we use.

That matters.

Because if you’re reading this right now, chances are you’re either in a valley… or you’ve just come out of one… or you’re about to enter one.

That’s life.

And the sooner we stop resisting that reality, the sooner we can start working with it instead of against it.

Insight #1 - Adversity Introduces You to Yourself

One of the biggest shifts from this conversation was realizing that failure isn’t separate from success.

It’s part of it.

Let that sit for a second.

We’ve been conditioned to believe there’s a straight line.

Do the right things → get the right results.

But real growth doesn’t work like that.

You try.

You miss.

You learn.

You adjust.

And every time you go through that cycle, you’re building something deeper than results.

You’re building awareness.

That matters.

Because success might give you outcomes…

but failure gives you understanding.

And without that understanding, success doesn’t last.

I believe this.

Insight #2: Every Struggle Comes With a Lesson

You know what I’ve noticed?

We’re quick to label something as “bad”… but we’re slow to look for what it’s teaching us.

Jordan put it simply… every struggle comes with a “free gift called a lesson.”

Now here’s the catch…

You don’t automatically receive the lesson.

You have to extract it.

That requires pause.

Reflection.

Honesty.

And if I’m being honest… this is where most people get stuck.

Because it’s easier to stay in the emotion than to do the work.

But here’s the thing…

If you miss the lesson, you repeat the experience.

Think about that.

That relationship…

That failure…

That setback…

It doesn’t go away until you learn what it came to teach you.

Insight #3: You’re Not Stuck — You’re Choosing

This one hit me.

Hard.

Because we talk about being stuck like it’s something that happens to us…

But Jordan reframed it in a way that forces accountability.

There are more people in self-imposed prisons than real ones.

Let that sit for a second.

Because that means…

It’s not always the situation holding you back.

Sometimes… it’s your perspective.

Your environment.

Your willingness to move.

Now don’t get me wrong… some situations are tough. Real tough.

But even in those moments…

You still have a choice.

You can stay in the valley…

Or you can start climbing.

Slowly. Intentionally. One step at a time.

Lessons for Living Audaciously

If you’re reading this, I want you to take a moment and ask yourself:

What adversity am I currently facing?

What lesson might be hidden inside it?

Am I reacting… or reflecting?

Here’s the truth…

Adversity isn’t here to break you.

It’s here to build you.

But only if you let it.

So the next time life throws something your way…

Don’t just ask, “Why is this happening?”

Ask…

“What is this trying to teach me?”

That question changes everything.
