_____________________
Janice Porter has spent her career proving that relationships rule everything. The former teacher turned LinkedIn trainer and host of the Relationships Rule podcast joins Audley for a warm, wide-ranging conversation about curiosity, trust, and follow-up, and the simple daily practice that keeps her connected to people: asking herself, who needs to hear from me today?
Episode Summary
Janice Porter is a relationship marketing specialist, LinkedIn trainer, and the host of the Relationships Rule podcast, now approaching 400 episodes. Her path ran from 14 years of teaching to corporate training to network marketing, before LinkedIn brought her full circle back to teaching. In this conversation she shares the philosophy behind it all: be curious, do what you say you are going to do, look for ways to add value, follow up with gratitude, and send the unexpected note or card.
Along the way Janice tells the story of a thank-you card that stopped a church organist from quitting, explains why she asks every new LinkedIn connection how she may support them, and opens up about the fellow podcaster whose passing reminded her that the relationships we think are not real are real. Audley brings his own take: curiosity opens the door, audacity walks through it. This one will leave you wanting to pick up the phone, or better yet, send a card.
Key Points:
KEY TAKEAWAY 1
Be interested rather than interesting. Curiosity is the great door opener. People move toward those who ask real questions and make them feel comfortable talking about themselves.
KEY TAKEAWAY 2
Do what you say you are going to do. Trust is built in the follow-through. If you say you will call next week, call next week. Follow-up is everything.
KEY TAKEAWAY 3
Add value without keeping score. Send the article, make the introduction, share the episode. Giving first is not just generous, it is the strategy.
KEY TAKEAWAY 4
Send the unexpected note. A card that arrives out of the blue has a way of landing exactly on time. Ask yourself daily: who needs to hear from me today?

Personal Insight
What stayed with me is how Janice made the invisible visible. We all say relationships matter. She handed me the operating system: be curious, do what you say, add value, follow up, and send the note nobody expects.
I have always been the guy who calls when someone crosses his mind, and hearing her describe the exact same instinct told me I am on the right track. The organist story will stay with me a long time. A simple card, sent on a nudge, kept a woman from walking away from the thing she was born to do. That is the whole episode in one image.
