Episode #709 You Know the Pattern. So Why Can’t You Change It?

“Awareness is not enough to create change. Insight alone is not enough to create change.”

— Krishna Avalon

Subconscious Therapist • Breakthrough Coach

What happens when you understand exactly why you keep repeating a pattern, yet understanding it still doesn’t change what you do? Krishna Avalon explores the gap between conscious awareness and the deeper patterns she believes may be shaping our choices, relationships and sense of possibility.

Episode Summary

You can recognize the people-pleasing. You can hear the inner critic. You may even understand where your self-doubt comes from. Yet knowing the pattern and changing it are not necessarily the same thing.

In this conversation, Audley sits down with subconscious therapist and breakthrough coach Krishna Avalon to explore what may be happening beneath our conscious awareness. Krishna discusses the subconscious beliefs she sees showing up around scarcity, self-trust, indecision, boundaries and inner criticism, and why successful, self-aware people can still find themselves repeatedly hitting the same walls.

The conversation also moves beyond awareness into practice. Krishna walks Audley through a brief body-based exercise built around noticing what you're experiencing, identifying where you feel it, questioning what you're believing and asking what you actually need. They also explore people-pleasing, identity, nervous-system regulation, self-compassion and why seemingly quiet decisions, including setting a boundary or treating yourself gently, can be deeply audacious.

If you have ever thought, “I know what I’m doing, so why do I keep doing it?” this conversation offers a different way to think about the question.

Top 4 Key Takeaways

KEY TAKEAWAY 1

Awareness can reveal a pattern without necessarily changing the mechanism that keeps repeating it.

KEY TAKEAWAY 2

Some behaviours that now limit us may have originally functioned as ways to create safety, acceptance or protection.

KEY TAKEAWAY 3

Instead of immediately fighting an uncomfortable thought, feeling or physical sensation, curiosity can create another way of responding to it.

KEY TAKEAWAY 4

Audacity does not have to be dramatic. Setting a boundary, questioning an old belief or choosing greater self-compassion can be an audacious act.

AUDACIOUS INSIGHT

Blog Post : Knowing Your Pattern Isn’t the Same as Changing It

Summary: Self-awareness can tell us why a behaviour exists while leaving the behaviour itself largely untouched. Real growth may require moving beyond simply understanding our patterns and developing a different relationship with the beliefs, protective responses and needs beneath them.

Personal Insight from Audley

One of the things that stood out to me in this conversation was Krishna’s distinction between awareness and change. I’ve always believed there is tremendous power in questioning the beliefs we carry, especially the ones we’ve held for so long that they no longer feel like beliefs. They simply feel like who we are.

What also resonated was the idea that audacity doesn’t always announce itself loudly. Sometimes the audacious thing is setting a boundary. Sometimes it’s deciding that something no longer serves you. Sometimes it’s simply asking, “Do I know that this is actually true?”

Those quieter acts matter. Living audaciously isn’t only about doing bigger things. Sometimes it begins with becoming willing to look differently at what has been running your life.
