Episode #700 The Three Truths About Audacity I Learned From 700 Conversations

“Seven hundred conversations ago, I believed there was greatness inside all of us. Seven hundred conversations later, I don't just believe it. I've seen it.”

— Audley Stephenson, Host of The Audacious Living Podcast

Seven hundred conversations later, one thing is clear: living audaciously doesn't have one definition, one look or one destination.

Episode Summary

Seven hundred conversations.

It's easy to look at a number like that and see a milestone. But Episode 700 of The Audacious Living Podcast isn't really about counting episodes. It's about asking what all those conversations have left behind.

Since launching the podcast, I've had the privilege of sitting across from people with wildly different stories. Entrepreneurs and athletes. Authors and advocates. Leaders and everyday people navigating extraordinary circumstances. People rebuilding, reinventing, risking, failing, succeeding and figuring things out along the way.

No two stories have been exactly alike.

Yet certain truths about living audaciously keep resurfacing.

Audacity isn't necessarily the fearless leap we imagine it to be. Sometimes it's calculated. Sometimes it's quiet. Sometimes nobody else even knows it happened.

And perhaps most importantly, it doesn't belong to a particular kind of person.

For Episode 700, we're opening the Audacious Wisdom Library and revisiting some of the ideas that have challenged, surprised and stayed with me.

Because after hundreds of conversations about courage, possibility and human potential, maybe the biggest lesson isn't simply what these guests accomplished.

It's who they became by being willing to move.

Four Key Takeaways

Audacity Is Intentional Courage

There's a difference between being reckless and being audacious. Recklessness ignores consequences. Audacity recognizes the uncertainty and chooses to move with intention anyway. Across hundreds of conversations, courage rarely sounded like an absence of fear. More often, it sounded like someone deciding that fear could have a seat in the room without being given control of the decision.

The Small Stuff Counts

We notice audacity when someone quits the job, launches the company, climbs the mountain or completely reinvents their life. Yet some of the most consequential acts of courage aren't nearly as visible. Saying no. Asking for help. Setting a boundary. Trying one more time. Living audaciously isn't reserved for headline moments. Sometimes the smallest decision quietly changes everything that follows.

Audacity Belongs to Everyone

Seven hundred conversations have produced hundreds of different expressions of courage. That's precisely the point. There isn't an audacious personality type. You don't have to be loud, fearless, wealthy, successful or naturally confident. Audacity becomes powerful when it becomes personal. Someone else's courage can inspire you, but your version doesn't have to resemble theirs.

Audacity Expands Who You Become

An audacious decision can change an outcome, but something even more interesting can happen along the way: you change. Taking action gives you evidence of capabilities you couldn't discover from the sidelines. Courage becomes experience. Experience builds belief. Eventually, you begin meeting versions of yourself that comfort and certainty could never have introduced you to.

700 Conversations Later…

Episode 700 doesn't have one traditional guest because, in a sense, hundreds of guests helped create it.

Since December 2020, The Audacious Living Podcast has been built around a simple but powerful curiosity: What becomes possible when people recognize the greatness within themselves and have the courage to act on it?

The answers have never been identical.

That's what makes this milestone worth exploring.

The Audacious Wisdom Library draws from those conversations not simply to revisit memorable moments, but to preserve ideas worth carrying forward.

Every guest leaves something behind.

A story. A perspective. A challenge. A sentence you don't forget.

Seven hundred conversations create quite a library.

For Episode 700, we're opening it.

Personal Insights

After 700 conversations, what stays with me isn't a particular accomplishment or definition of success. It's how often people discovered something about themselves only because they were willing to move before they had everything figured out.

Somewhere along the way, while I was asking hundreds of people about their audacity, this podcast became part of mine.
