Episode #729 Your Authentic Identify | Seline Shenoy

“The only reason why you’re intimidated is because the goal is too big. So just shrink it down.”

Seline Shenoy, author of The Nomadic Soul and host of The Dream Catcher Podcast

How do you discover who you are while giving yourself permission to change? Author and podcaster Seline Shenoy joins Audley to explore authentic identity, self-belief, and the freedom to grow beyond other people’s expectations.

Episode Summary

Knowing yourself sounds straightforward until other people’s expectations, old labels, and constant comparison enter the picture. In this conversation, Seline Shenoy, author of The Nomadic Soul, explores how to build a clearer relationship with yourself while remaining open to change.

Seline shares how moving from life coaching into writing helped her find an outlet for a voice she had struggled to express. What began as a personal blog became a platform for connecting with others, showing her how self-discovery could also become a way to serve.

Together, Seline and Audley unpack the relationship between identity and reinvention. Seline describes identity as layered, with values and principles providing a foundation as interests, roles, and circumstances evolve. They also discuss the importance of forgiving your younger self, recognizing strengths hidden beneath limiting labels, and creating evidence of self-belief through action.

The conversation turns to introversion, body image, and the pressure to measure yourself against carefully curated lives online. Seline offers a grounded invitation to focus on your own direction and make regular space for reflection.

Listen for a thoughtful conversation about knowing yourself, allowing yourself to evolve, and bringing more intention to everyday life.

Key Takeaways

  • Let your values guide your evolution. You can explore new roles and directions while using your principles to assess what fits.

  • Build self-belief through action. Taking meaningful steps gives you evidence to draw on when doubt or discouragement appears.

  • Pair reflection with self-compassion. Learn from past choices while recognizing the knowledge, tools, and circumstances you had at the time.

  • Measure progress against your own direction. Make space to reflect on your strengths and goals instead of using someone else’s public image as your standard.

Audley’s Personal Insight

One part of this conversation that stood out to me was how something we once saw as a weakness can turn out to be a strength. Seline spoke about being a quiet, reflective child and eventually recognizing the value in that part of herself. It brought me back to what I’ve learned as a parent: the quality that challenges you in a child can become something people appreciate in that same person as an adult.

I also thought about my old blog, Always Make Your Mark. I didn’t have the language of audacity back then, but the thread was already there. Sometimes looking back helps us recognize what has been guiding us all along.
