Episode #174: Work to Be Happy Featuring Anthony Poponi

"People put a lot of conditions on happiness in that 10% segment of like these life circumstances.  Well, I'll be happy when I get the next raise, I'll be happy when I get married, I'll be happy when I get divorced. I'll be happy, when I graduate, I'll be happy when I get a new house. Not only are you kicking the can down the road on happiness, you're also putting entirely too much focus on things that really don't have as much sustainable happiness in your life, versus the little things that are available to you all day long."
Anthony Poponi

Regardless of what your version of true happiness, living a happier, more satisfied life is within our reach. Past experiences are likely to have an influence on your current outlook and state of mind. If you have been through a traumatic event in your life, it can be difficult to accept the good even when it is right in front of you. There aren’t any shortcuts to living a happier life and that's because true happiness takes work. There isn’t a magical key.

Life consists of experiences — some positive and some negative. The way we respond to these experiences is how we genuinely determine our joy in life. Happiness comes from putting in work and actively choosing how you deal with what life brings you.

No matter how out-of-control your day is, no matter how stressful your job or life becomes, the act of being present can become an oasis. It can change your life, and it’s incredibly simple.

“When you wake up tomorrow, the thing that was bothering you before is not going to go away. But you've buoyed yourself up, and you filled up one of your batteries in life, so that you can continue to push through this hard thing and that context is really hard.”
